Volunteer

Women of the World is excited to welcome volunteers and donors from all walks of life interested in building communities on trust and self-reliance. Our programs rely on the support of our mentors, to befriend our new neighbors and teach them the necessary skills and give them the social networks that ensure they will succeed on their own. Our organization is dependent on the benevolence of others to continue to make an impact locally and—through the service of those most impacted by the world’s inhumanity—ultimately make the world a better place.

Below are common opportunities for volunteering with Women of the World. If you have any questions, contact volunteers@womenofworld.org. To start volunteering, you must attend one of our monthly orientations. Please click on the events below to RSVP.

Common Opportunities

English Teacher

Volunteer at a Practical English Class and work with groups and individuals on pronunciation and role-playing. No formal schooling or class preparation is required, just a willingness to chat and practice basic English skills. Our classes are currently held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12-1:30 PM and we ask that you let us know 24 hours before the day you come in.

Mentorships

One hour/week commitment for at least 6 months. Our mentoring program is offered to our ladies who work or go to school and cannot attend our English classes or just need extra help and support. The mentor is paired to help with whatever our client needs as they work toward self-reliance. The mentorship can also be relationship-building focused. For example, our client can teach you how to cook food from her country and vice versa.

Event Volunteer

We are always in need of people to help events run smoothly! We have three main events: the Fashion Show, Mother's Day, and the Celebration of Success, and usually need volunteers to help as ushers, food servers, and with the set-up/clean-up. We also sometimes need volunteers to table at community events such as World Refugee Day.

Interpreter

Our clients are from all over the world and many are still in the process of learning English. Our staff speaks French and Arabic but occasionally needs interpreters for large events or client appointments. We are looking for volunteers that speak Spanish, Dari, Swahili, and Ukrainian and are willing to interpret for WoW and our clients.

Childcare

Sometimes it's better for our women to attend workshops and appointments without distractions and to be in a safe environment where they can be fully open with us. We try to provide childcare for our clients when their kids aren't in school.
